Mission
Statement:
Land of Medicine Buddha is a Center devoted to the transmission of the
Mahayana Buddhist tradition and values through teaching, meditation and
community service, located in the Santa Cruz Mountains, also servicing the
Monterey Bay and San Francisco areas. Our organization is based on the
Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsong Khapa of Tibet as taught to us by our
founder, Lama Thubten Yeshe and our Spiritual Director, Lama Zopa Rinpoche.
We provide integrated education
through which people’s minds and hearts can be transformed into their
highest potential for the benefit of others, inspired by an attitude of
universal responsibility.
As caretakers of a sacred space we
offer facilities, spiritual teachings & services, and an atmosphere
supporting people’s inner healing and development to their full
potential of infinite wisdom and compassion.
Land
of Medicine Buddha, affiliated with the FPMT, Functions as a Tibetan
Buddhist Dharma center yet is more than simply a Tibetan Buddhist retreat
center. It is a beautiful mountain retreat in California's wonderful
redwood forest that serves many purposes. We function as a
perfect place to come and learn about Tibetan Buddhism from the many great
masters that teach here annually as well as our experienced resident
teachers, an excellent place for groups to hold their workshops, a
relaxing and affordable place to stay in our guest accommodations, and an outstanding place to visit for the day to take a hike in
the woods, ride mountain bikes, meditate, or just relax away from the city
life.

Hiking
Trails -
Situated in 170 acres in Soquel,
just south of Santa Cruz, and adjoining 10,000 acres of state forest, our
physical location provides a perfect space for guests to relax and connect
to their spiritual inner being, and recover from the strains of life.

Our
Founder and Spiritual Director -
Lama Thubten Yeshe was the founder
and first Spiritual Director of the FPMT. Since Lama Yeshe's passing in 1984,
his primary disciple, Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, has succeeded him as Spiritual
Director of the organization. Both are close disciples of His Holiness the 14th
Dalai Lama. Lama Tenzin Osel Rinpoche has been recognized as the current
incarnation of Lama Yeshe.

FPMT Centers -
Land
of Medicine Buddha is part of the FPMT - Foundation for the Preservation
of the Mahayana Tradition. The majority of FPMT centers are organized
around the core activities of study and meditation, providing a means for
students to receive teachings and meditate upon them. Centers offer weekly
meditation sessions, weekend courses and retreats of various lengths. More
serious students can enroll in intensive study programs which are based on
the commentaries of Atisha, Tsong Khapa and other great masters, following
an unbroken lineage from the teachings given by the Buddha 2,500 years
ago.
Many centers have resident Tibetan lamas and all have
qualified students - monks, nuns, or lay people - who function as
teachers. Most centers have retreat facilities. Some are set up
specifically for retreat and have lamas in residence for guidance. Some
centers have resident communities to provide facilities for study and
meditation. Community living is an opportunity to practice intensively
among fellow Buddhists and provides one with the opportunity to serve
others.

Land
of Medicine Buddha
is a sacred space: a place dedicated to healing and renewing the heart. In
this unique environment, where redwoods, oak, squirrel, wild turkeys, deer
and the song of birds abound, you can enjoy fine walking and biking
trails, be still with nature in the meadow, merge with the primordial
silence of the enchanted forest, admire the beauty of the superb temple
and meditation hall, unwind in the sauna, swim in the heated pool, browse
the library, turn one of three beautiful prayer wheels, relax in an
elegantly-fitted modern bedroom, take time to restore your inner strength
and find a new depth of peace.
We are a center devoted to healing and developing loving-kindness.
Situated in 85 acres in Soquel, a few miles south of Santa Cruz, and
adjoining 10,000 acres of state forest, our physical location provides the
space for guests to relax and recover from the strains of life. Friends
come back month after month, year after year.
This extraordinary facility is complemented by stimulating and inspiring
programs led by some of the finest teachers in the world. Meditation is
taught regularly to help access the ever-present stillness, clarity and
love existing within our hearts. Simple yet profound, life-changing
universal truths are introduced to help us experience the deepest,
authentic peace and satisfaction-a heart and mind relaxed and open,
transformed through loving-kindness born from wisdom.
You are welcome to visit Land of Medicine Buddha at any time to
participate in our workshops, courses and retreats, or just to get away
from things. We are also available for group rental.
Stay connected. Join us. We welcome you to partner us in our vision to
implement a new momentum of healing and universal education based on the
essential truths of wisdom, loving-kindness and compassion.
